Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security
Dan was the Chair of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security. This Committee investigates the areas of security precautions, counter-terrorism measures and Australia’s intelligence organisations such as ASIO as well as border protection. The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security is a key component of the framework that exists to oversee the important work of Australia’s intelligence and security agencies.
Chair of the Coalition Policy Committee on Economics and Finance
Dan also Chaired the Coalition Policy Committee on Economics and Finance as well serving of a number of others committees including the House of Representatives Agriculture and Industry Committee.
Other Committee Roles
Other roles included being the Convenor of the Coalition Friends of Tourism and involvement with several Parliamentary Friendship Groups. Dan is Co-Chair of the Parliamentarians Supporting Cancer Causes, Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Youth Mental Health and Co-Convenor of the Parliamentary Friends of Deakin University.
In February 2015 Dan was appointed the Convenor of the Australia-Americas Parliamentary Network and Chair of the Australia-USA Parliamentary Group.
A passionate supporter of the Richmond Football Club, Dan established the Federal Parliamentary Richmond Tigers Football Group, Tigers on the Hill.
In November 2013 Dan was appointed the Chair of the Victorian Consultative Panel for the Black Spot Programme. The Black Spot Programme helps reduce crashes on Australian roads by funding measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts at dangerous locations. It makes an important contribution to reducing the national road toll under the National Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan.
In the previous 43rd Parliament, Dan was appointed to two key House of Representatives Standing Committees that investigate issues of importance to rural and regional Australia: the Standing Committee on Regional Australia, and the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Resources, Fisheries and Forestry as well as the Joint Human Rights Committee.
