Federal Member for Wannon Dan Tehan says that the ACCC Investigation into anti-competitive petrol prices in Colac is now in Treasurer Wayne Swan’s hands.
Mr Tehan this week received a letter from the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Petitions advising that the Committee has considered the petition, and have decided the petition worthy of referring to the relevant Minister for response.
Treasurer Wayne Swan has therefore been forwarded a copy of the petition, and has been given 90 days to provide the Committee with a written response.
“I have formally tabled the Colac petrol petition and it has now been sent to the Treasurer for answers. It is now up to Wayne Swan to see that the ACCC carries out an investigation into the anti-competitive pricing of petrol in Colac,” Mr Tehan said.
“Wayne Swan needs to be up front with the people in the Colac region, and give the 6,409 concerned people who signed this important petition the answers they deserve.
“My questions to Wayne Swan are: Are you going to get the ACCC to investigate this very serious matter? And if not, what other action are you going to take on the issue of petrol prices in Colac?
“The people of Colac will rightly be looking closely at how the Treasurer responds to their overwhelming expression of concern, as will I.
