MEDIA RELEASE
30 July 2010
COALITION WILL DELIVER MRI TO SOUTH WEST VICTORIA
Liberal Candidate for Wannon, Dan Tehan announced today that if elected a Coalition Government will immediately grant a Medicare funded MRI licence for south west Victoria to be located in Warrnambool. This is a funding commitment of $5 million.
Through Peter's Project our local community has spoken of the need for a Medicare funded MRI licence and the Coalition has listened.
By providing a Medicare funded MRI licence we are ensuring all members of the community will be able to afford access to this vital diagnostic tool.
The Coalition believes all people suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses should be able to access the highest quality care in their own community, close to their family support networks.
The need for an MRI has been demonstrated by the wonderful community support for Peter’s Project and by the petition signed by local doctors across the south west which was tabled in the Federal Parliament.
We need strong representation in Wannon to deliver the projects that are vital to our community and, if elected, I am determined to ensure the health needs of our local communities are met.
This announcement clearly shows the Coalition will continue to deliver for our local communities. It comes on the back of the strong financial support given by the previous Coalition Government for the establishment of a medical school at Deakin University in Warrnambool.
The Coalition is taking real action with practical measures to make a difference to our local rural and regional communities.
