The Telstra Assistance Fund is offering eligible* Australian Rules football, netball, rugby league and surf life saving clubs, as well as community music and dance groups the chance to apply for equipment lost in the flood devastated areas.
This year the fund will devote its entire national spend to clubs located in areas affected by the recent floods in NSW, Victoria or Queensland or Cyclone Yasi in Queensland.
“Local club sport is such an important part of our country communities and this year’s funding is especially important for those clubs struggling following the recent floods, said Mr Tehan.
Dale Thomas said that “so many people have been doing it tough since the recent natural disasters struck so it’s fantastic to see the Telstra Assistance Fund offer local clubs and community groups a helping hand to get back on their feet.”
Telstra Country Wide Area General Manager for South West Victoria, Bill Mundy said the focus of this year’s grants is on helping local clubs and community groups in the region return to normal operation with new equipment.
“These clubs and groups are the lifeblood of our local community and by replacing some of their lost or damaged equipment we hope to help kick start their rebuilding efforts as well as support the wider community,” he added.
The Telstra Assistance Fund has been providing equipment grants to sports and community clubs in need since 2003, and has delivered more than $8.5 million worth of equipment to more than 6,500 community and sporting groups across Australia.
Eligible clubs are encouraged to go to www.ideasforgood.com.au/taf. Applications for equipment grants have opened and will close at 5.00pm (AEST) Thursday 30 June.
*To be eligible clubs need to provide details about the flood or cyclone damage to their club’s equipment and select an equipment pack to suit their needs.
