Mr Tehan said that the Shipwreck Day Club had received $6,424 from the Veteran and Community Grants program, in order to fund furniture and other equipment which will help further establish the Club.
The Federal Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, has welcomed news that funding has been received by a local Warrnambool organisation to help promote a healthy social lifestyle for veterans, and other members of the community.
Mr Tehan said that the Shipwreck Day Club had received $6,424 from the Veteran and Community Grants program, in order to fund furniture and other equipment which will help further establish the Club.
“This funding will go towards purchasing furniture and equipment to be used by the Shipwreck Day Club when they host their weekly program at the Warrnambool RSL,” Mr Tehan said.
Co-ordinator of the Shipwreck Day Club, Sharon Patton said “we are all very thankful for the funding from Department of Veterans’ Affairs and look forward to welcoming more members to the club”.
“The Veteran and Community Grants program provides financial support for activities, services and projects that maintain and improve the independence and quality of life of the veteran community.
“There are around fifty Day Clubs set up across Victoria that provide essential social and recreational activities for not only veterans and war widow/widowers, but for all members of the community who are unable to attend more active programs offered in their community. It is through organisations like the Shipwreck Day Club that we can ensure the well being of our community is being taken care of,” Mr Tehan said.
Mr Tehan encouraged local community and ex-service organisations interested in applying for funding to visit www.dva.gov.au/grants or call their nearest DVA office on 1800 555 254.
