COALITION TO PROVIDE $500,000 FOR GREAT GRAMPIANS WALK
Liberal Candidate for Wannon, Dan Tehan today announced that a Coalition Government would provide $500,000 for the Great Grampians Walk.
Mr Tehan said the Coalition had committed $500,000 towards developing this important local tourism attraction.
“We’ve all heard about walks like the Great South West Walk and the Great Alpine Walk – the Great Grampians Walk will become one of those iconic walks, a major tourism draw card for the region.”
“This funding will allow towns such as Halls Gap and Dunkeld to benefit from increased tourism, providing opportunities for local residents and a range of nature based tourism products and services,” Mr Tehan said.
The Coalition have released their Tourism Policy which will provide $14 million over 4 years for grants of up to $100,000 per annum for Regional Tourism Organisations.
The Coalition believes that Regional Tourism Organisations are best placed to promote local tourism to the domestic market and these grants will help bring domestic tourists to the Grampians.
The Grampians could also benefit from the Coalition commitment of $40 million over 4 years towards infrastructure grants that will drive the development of local tourism products, such as the development of the Great Grampians Walk.
“Applications for grants will have a particular focus on providing funding to towns such as Halls Gap and Dunkeld that rely heavily on tourism for their economic growth.”
“There are so many wonderful things to do around the Grampians, such as McKenzie Falls, Brambuk Cultural Centre and the fantastic views and we want to encourage more tourists to the Grampians,” said Mr Tehan.
“A lot of great work has already been done throughout the Grampians National Park and this funding will allow new development to proceed.”
