COALITION TO UPGRADE MELVILLE OVAL LIGHTING
Users of Hamilton’s Melville Oval will enjoy upgraded lighting if the Coalition is elected on August 21.
Liberal Candidate for Wannon Dan Tehan announced today that a Coalition Government would allocate $225,000 to upgrade lighting at Hamilton’s historic Melville Oval.
Mr Tehan said the upgrade was a major boost to local sporting clubs and the community.
He said the new lights would have wide ranging benefits which would include allowing underage football to be held on Friday nights; improve training conditions for footballers, assist with security and help increase participation in local sport.
In making the announcement, Mr Tehan said this was another example of the Coalition listening to the people of Wannon.
“I was at a President’s Luncheon earlier this year when the need for upgraded lighting was raised with me,” Mr Tehan said.
“I am pleased that the Coalition has listened and will provide the much needed upgrade if it is elected.
“This upgrade will be a huge boost to sport in Hamilton. Hopefully, one day we will see a Western Border Football League match played under lights on Melville Oval.”
Mr Tehan said Melville Oval was an important community meeting place with a rich history.
“I’m sure many Hamilton residents will agree there is no better place to be than Melville Oval on a crisp Saturday afternoon in winter as they barrack for their team,” Mr Tehan said.
Mr Tehan said the Coalition was taking action to improve community facilities and remove the cost burden from local government.
