Federal Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, is calling for nominations for the 2011 Australian Government Sport Achievement Awards, to be held later this year.
In 2011 the Australian Government Sport Achievement Award celebrates its 10th year and continues to receive resounding, positive feedback. Instigated in 2002, the Award recognises outstanding sporting performances, achievements and contributions by community members.
The Australian Government Sport Achievement Award recognises:
• Individual or team achievement, such as national or state team selection, regional/state/national competition success, or high-level single performance (eg Australian or state record);
• Community sport contribution by individuals, including coaches, referees/umpires and administrators with a minimum of five years service; or
• Contribution to sport by schools, community groups (eg Lions, Rotary) or media organisations to a particular sporting event, facility or for continuous support over a minimum of two years.
Mr Tehan is now calling for nominations from community members for the above categories.
“I would welcome any nominations for an Award, and people can submit nominations to my office,” Mr Tehan said.
“To nominate a person, team or group, please include your contact details, along with the name, address, age and contact telephone numbers for each nominee; a brief overview of their achievement(s) and the category for their award.
“Nominations should reach my Warrnambool electorate office at 73 Kepler Street by Wednesday 31 August 2011. For further details, please contact my Warrnambool electorate office on 03 5561 6405.
“Recipients will be recognised at an Awards Ceremony I will host in the electorate in December.
“These Awards assist in promoting the benefits of participating in sports in our local community, whether as a competitor, coach, umpire/referee or administrator and I urge people to nominate someone they feel is worthy of this recognition,” Mr Tehan said.
