“This memorial will be a wonderful contribution to the rich history in the Derrinallum and Lismore region of the soldier settlement. It will be a fitting tribute for the region, and one that the whole community can be proud of,” Mr Tehan said.
The Federal Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, has welcomed news that funding has been received by the Derrinallum and Lismore Community Association to honour local veterans.
Mr Tehan said that the Derrinallum and Lismore Community Association had received $3,685 from the Saluting Their Service Commemorations grants program, in order to help fund the construction of a memorial at Gala Estate to commemorate soldier settlement in the district post the Second World War.
“This funding will go towards helping to build a fitting tribute and memorial at Gala Estate, commemorating the soldier settlement post World War Two,’ Mr Tehan said.
“The Saluting Their Service grants program provides financial assistance to help communities honour the sacrifice and service of Australia’s servicemen and women.
“This memorial will be a wonderful contribution to the rich history in the Derrinallum and Lismore region of the soldier settlement. It will be a fitting tribute for the region, and one that the whole community can be proud of,” Mr Tehan said.
Mr Tehan encouraged local community and ex-service organisations interested in applying for funding to visit www.dva.gov.au/grants or call their nearest DVA office on 1800 555 254.
