Communities in Wannon will benefit from the federal government’s Veteran and Community Grants funding, Federal Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan said today.
“Across Wannon four veterans’ and community organisations will benefit from $16,762 in Veteran and Community Grants funding”, said Mr Tehan.
The following organisations have been allocated grants in this round of funding:
• Casterton RSL Sub-branch $9,334
To assist with replacing floor coverings and upgrade disability access in the RSL clubrooms.
• Coleraine RSL Sub-branch $1,199
To assist with purchasing a portable public address system.
• Heywood Rural Health $3,429
To assist with purchasing air-conditioning, kitchen whitegoods and a BBQ for the Heywood Men’s Shed.
• Naval Association of Australia – SW Sub-section $3,429
To assist with purchasing a portable public address system.
"Veteran and Community Grants help improve the health and wellbeing of the veteran community by supporting a range of projects where they can learn skills to help them remain independent and active, particularly for the elderly living by themselves.
“Unfortunately the next funding round, due to open this month, has been deferred as the government has reduced funding for these grants – the result being that there will only be two application rounds per year instead of the current three rounds and the opening date of the next round has not yet been finalised.
"The service provided by volunteer veteran welfare and pensions officers, advocates and others in the veteran and ex-service community is a very important support for seniors in our community. The government’s funding cut of $8 million from this programme and the Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) programme over the next four years means less people will benefit from their great work."
