Households in Wannon are feeling the pain of rising bills with electricity prices rising as much as 24.8%* in the last year alone.
The Rudd/Gillard Government stated that it would act to ease the cost of living pressures with the Treasurer, Wayne Swan, even going as far to say in April of this year that his Government had “a cost of living agenda in place for working families”.
The facts clearly show that Labor’s cost of living agenda is driving prices up not down.
Labor has also fuelled uncertainty by breaking its election promise on a carbon tax at a time when electricity bills are already soaring.
These carbon tax plans were obviously part of the secret deal done between Labor and the Greens and could result in further hikes of up to 25% in the cost of electricity in the short term, and a likely doubling of prices in the medium term.
If further huge price rises follow with the introduction of a carbon tax the more vulnerable in our community, such as pensioners, might be going without essentials such as heating in winter.
Of course these price rises don’t just affect our utility bills, the cost of groceries and everyday expenses will also go up resulting in further pressures on the cost of living.
Wannon’s gas bills are also heading up with some bills up by 8.1% in the last year~.
Federal Labor must act to ease pressure on the cost of living, rather than introducing policies which further increase it.
It must ensure its cost of living agenda drives prices down not up.
