Tehan Welcomes Key Parliamentary Committee Appointments
Federal Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan MP, has welcomed his appointment to key regional Parliamentary committees today in Canberra.
Mr Tehan has been appointed to both of the two key House of Representatives Standing Committees that investigate issues of relevance to rural and regional Australia.
Mr Tehan was appointed to the newly created Standing Committee on Regional Australia, and to the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Resources, Fisheries and Forestry.
“I welcome these two appointments to Standing Committees in the House of Representatives. Being an active member of both of these committees will give me the opportunity to fully contribute to any inquiries held on rural or regional issues,” Mr Tehan said.
“The Standing Committee on Regional Australia was created this year when Labor lost outright power in the House of Representatives and was forced to acknowledge that regional Australia was being left out and left behind over the last three years.
“Previous inquiries by the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Resources, Fisheries and Forestry have included important issues such as the impact of water rights on regional Australia, infrastructure and the development of Australia’s regional areas, and adjusting to agricultural trade reform.
“Now more than ever, it has been recognised that rural and regional communities are missing out when it comes to being considered in the policy that is developed by the Labor Government in Canberra.
“Being a member of these committees means that if there is an issue of great concern recommended to the Committee by the House of Representatives for a formal Inquiry, I will be in the room to make sure that rural and regional Australians are given a voice.
