Edy and Dean Foster and their family have been living in fear since having their roof insulation deemed unsafe and in need of removal by a Government inspector in mid September.
Mrs Foster was told in September that the problem would be fixed within three days, yet two months later nothing has been done.
It would seem that Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Greg Combet is presiding over another debacle similar to that of his predecessor Minister Garrett.
The Foster’s insulation was installed directly over down lights and for the last two months Mrs Foster has been repeatedly warning her young children not to switch the lights on in fear that a fire will eventuate.
That the Government has not acted to fix this dangerous situation beggars belief.
Mrs Foster has called the insulation hotline three times since the inspection on 13 September and has still not had a reply to her urgent concerns.
The ‘pink batts’ program has been a disaster from the beginning and with 4 lives already lost, how many more will it take before the Government will act and take responsibility for a problem that they have created.
I have written a letter to Minister Combet asking him to urgently act on behalf of this family who genuinely fear for their safety.
Having smouldering insulation in the roof is not acceptable under any circumstance, but this case is especially dire as there are young children in the home, it is simply appalling that the Government has left them in this situation.
