Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, will travel to Israel next week as a guest of the Rambam Israel Fellowship Program.
Dan Tehan was nominated by the Coalition to undertake the program and will meet with the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Gen Moshe Ya’alon and the Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Aylon and visit the ANZAC cemetery and Park of the Australian Soldier at Beersheva during the visit.
He will travel to Israel with five other members of the Coalition including the Shadow Assistant Treasurer and the Shadow Minister for Defence Science, Technology and Personnel.
“It is real honour to be chosen to undertake the Israel Fellowship Program. I have always had a strong interest in the Australia‐Israel trade relationship and I will be looking for ways to increase our exports from Wannon in particular and Australia in general,” Mr Tehan said.
“Israel is a destination for Australian livestock ($24 million in 09/10) and breeding sheep are exported to Israel by a company based in Camperdown. We also export Aluminium to Israel ($14m in 09‐10).
“Australia is also a key export market for water technologies with Israeli companies leading the way in drip irrigation innovation. This is not only relevant to Wannon but for my work on the Standing Committee for Regional Affairs where we are currently undertaking an inquiry into the Murray Darling Basin Authorities draft water plan. We also import fertiliser from Israel ($30m in 09/10).”
Further information on the Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council can be found at www.aijac.org.au . The trip (including airfares, accommodation and living expenses) is fully funded by the Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council.
