Federal Member for Wannon Dan Tehan is calling on all local sporting champions to apply for grants of $500 for individuals or $3,000 for teams.
“Local Sporting Champions is designed to provide financial support for young sportsmen and women participating in state or national level sporting competitions and national school sport competitions,” Mr Tehan said today.
“Under the initiative successful individuals will receive $500 and successful team applicants will receive $3,000 to contribute to the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when competing.
“The program is available for athletes, coaches and officials aged between 12 and 18 years (inclusive), travelling more than 250km, return, to participate in a national sporting organisation‐endorsed state or national level sporting competition, or national school sport competition.
“So for most people in Wannon, if you have to travel to Melbourne for Sport, or even to Geelong or Ballarat, you may be eligible for the local sporting champions grant.
Young people can apply for funding support at any time throughout the year and applications will be available on‐line from the ASC web site www.ausport.gov.au/champions.
“Applications for the next round of Local Sporting Champions grants close on 28 February 2011.
“If you miss Round 2 of funding, Round 3 runs from 1 March 2011 ‐ 30 June 2011.
“Go online to the ASC website for further information and application forms, or contact my electorate offices on: ph: 5561 6405 in Warrnambool, ph: 5572 1100 in Hamilton, or ph: 1300 131 692 for a local call.”
