Federal Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, has called on the Federal Government to announce what its plans are to help flood‐devastated areas in western Victoria.
As reported in today’s Herald Sun, thirteen western Victorian mayors have written to the Federal Government, calling on them to do more than just patch up flood‐devastated infrastructure.
“What we need to see is detailed solutions which will fix Victoria’s infrastructure for the long term,” Mr Tehan said.
“So far, all we have from the Federal Government is a commitment to provide $500million. Two weeks later, we are still waiting to see the detail on what this money will be spent on and where it will be spent.
“Communities across western Victoria have suffered enough, and the last thing they need is a federal government unwilling and unable to provide leadership.
“Thirteen western Victorian mayors have made it clear where they would like some of the money spent and the federal government should listen to their request and act.
“Merely repairing damaged infrastructure is a band‐aid solution. What we need to see is this infrastructure improved so that it can withstand extreme weather events in the future,” Mr Tehan said.
