Wannon bridges renewal projects get go ahead

The injection of 2.2 million to upgrade our local bridges will make using them safer and more reliable, while also being a huge fillip for freight providing major benefits for the community and the region, Mr Tehan said.

Local bridges approved for upgrade are listed below:

  • Castle Carey Road, between Camperdown and Mortlake? replacing the two lane timber bridge with wider two lane bridge, new approaches and straighter alignment
  • Ziegler Parade Bridge over the Hopkins River at Allansford – repair and reinforcement of existing concrete bridge structure and upgrade of guard railing.

In particular, our programme will improve road access for local traffic and increase efficiency on local roads, which will be a relief to all. Mr Tehan said.

The Wannon electorate is a vibrant region and our Government is investing in its continued growth.

Councils will play a significant role in managing these projects, ensuring these bridges can continue to contribute to productivity and community access.

The Australian Government has committed $114 million under Round One of the programme, with a total commitment of $300 million over five years from 2014-15 for the entire programme.
