Tehan: Seizing global opportunities locally

Mr Tehan is co-hosting a seminar with the Minister for Small Business Bruce Billson at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre, Ararat? the first regional seminar in a series to be rolled out around the country? which he said is designed to equip existing and potential exporters with information on how to make the most of the FTA’s secured by the Abbott Government.

The agreements delivered by the Abbott Government provide preferential access to a market of over 1.5 billion people? putting our home-grown businesses in the driver’s seat in these lucrative Asian markets, Mr Tehan said.

Mr Tehan said the agreements with Japan, Korea and China form a powerful trifecta which will open up many doors across goods and services.

Together, these agreements account for over 62 per cent of Australia’s export market, creating a world of opportunity for local businesses in the electorate, Mr Tehan said.

So whether you specialise in manufacturing, food production or service provision. Whether you ‘re an SME or just starting out in business, the seminars are designed to equip you with the information needed to leverage the opportunities created by the FTAs, Mr Tehan said.

Mr Tehan said it’s not just traditional exporters that have the potential to expand their operations.

While the elimination of tariffs into these markets increases our competitiveness when exporting, it’s important to remember the removal of tariffs on imports into Australia can result in cheaper inputs for Australian businesses, such as our high-end manufacturers, Mr Tehan said.

Mr Tehan said the seminar is an ideal networking event, providing participants with the opportunity to share their experiences with other businesspeople and learn from experts in the trade space.

Trade specialists will be on hand to offer targeted advice and assistance on how to identify opportunities and navigate the export market, Mr Tehan said.

There’s growing demand across Asia for Australia’s world class goods and services; the opportunities are there for the taking, and if seized upon, will help create jobs, build our economy and lead to greater prosperity for everyone, he said.
