Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan today announced nearly $500,000 into Balmoral sporting infrastructure as part of the second $30 million round of the Coalition Government’s Community Sport Infrastructure Program.

The announcement was made today at the Balmoral Recreation Reserve along with representatives of Southern Grampians Shire Council, Balmoral Recreation Reserve Committee of Management and community members.

“The Coalition Government understands that our success and prowess as a sporting nation begins with grassroots sports, which is why we have focused our investment on local grassroots sporting facilities such as the Balmoral Recreation Reserve,” Mr Tehan said.

“As outlined in the National Sports Plan, Sport 2030, grassroots sports help drive increased participation and promote social, health and community benefits of physical activity and sport – a key priority for our government.

Mr Tehan said sport played an important role across Balmoral and district and the benefits of the Coalitions Government investment in the facilities will be felt right across the community.

“Sport 2030 recognises sport plays a significant role in Australia, from our biggest cities, to regional communities like ours here in Balmoral”, Mr Tehan said.

“This funding will help to deliver to Balmoral a multi-purpose, multi-function complex which will enable facilitation of sporting activities. The project transitions an aged infrastructure into a modern multi-use centre which will provide for sporting and social activities for the entire community.

The upgraded inclusive facilities, especially the change rooms for male and female players and officials with disability access meets community expectations.

The Complex also provides space for large community activities, previously unavailable within the town suitable for hosting workshop and training sessions, regional forums and intergenerational events.

“Our local sporting clubs are at the core of our country communities, and I am proud to be able to support them through this grant program, and I congratulate the committee of management and community on their successful application”, Mr Tehan said.
