Secondary school students at Hamilton and Alexandra College in Hamilton will benefit from extended boarding facilities for senior students thanks to $760,000 in funding from the Federal Government.

Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan officially opened the new MacDonald and Speirs boarding house facilities today.

“It was great to visit Hamilton and Alexandra College and see the new facilities firsthand and the impact they will have on students’ learning potential,” Mr Tehan said.

Mr Tehan said students and the whole school community would benefit from these new facilities.

“These new boarding facilities will provide a home away from home for students and staff.

“This is part of our commitment to ensuring students have the support they need to succeed in the classroom.

“Students and teachers thrive when their schools have modern and up-to-date facilities – that’s why the Federal Government is proud of the Capital Grants Program, which has benefited thousands of schools across the nation.”

The Government has committed $703 million until 2022, which provides funding for non-government schools to improve capital infrastructure.
