The Hexham Community Association has been the beneficiary of a Volunteer Grant thanks to the Coalition Government.

Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, said he was excited to see $2,300 from the Coalition Government’s Volunteer Grants Program being awarded to the Hexham Community Association, which will be used to purchase new furniture for community use.

“It is wonderful to see this funding coming here to Hexham. The Hexham Community Association are doing important work here and it is pleasing to see this funding going towards new tables and chairs for their Community Hall,” Mr Tehan said.

Mr Tehan said volunteering greatly benefits our communities – both socially and economically.

“The enormous value of volunteering is estimated at $290 billion per year. Australia’s 8.7 million volunteers and their organisations are the backbone of community life.”

“Volunteers embody the best of our community with thousands of people regularly volunteering their skills, services and time to make life in Hexham better for those around them.”

Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 have been awarded to help community organisations for a range of needs, including buying equipment, paying fuel costs, training volunteers or improving their fundraising.

“The Coalition Government’s strong economic management is why we can afford to provide the essential services Australian rely on and support the great work of our volunteers, such as those here in Hexham.”
